I am currently a junior Division I pitcher at Furman University in Greenville, SC, majoring in Communications. Furman is one of the smallest and most prestigious colleges in Division I sports and has consistently been ranked among the upper echelon of schools with the most rigorous academic credentials. We have also been recognized, by the NCAA, as having one of the top Graduation Success Rates in Division I.  As a pitcher recuperating from major elbow surgery, I have had time to reflect and consider my life’s path away from baseball.

Majoring in Communications, I have been able to enhance my public speaking skills, with the intent to be involved in the radio/television broadcast field. In fact, while I was rehabbing during my “redshirt” year, I had the unique opportunity to be the public address announcer of my team’s baseball games. It was an experience that I thoroughly enjoyed and for which I have a real aptitude.

Being a Division I athlete has taught me how to deal with life’s many challenges on and off the field. The hard work, discipline and time management involved have enabled me to demonstrate my strong leadership qualities.  As an athlete involved in sports my entire life, I know what it takes to work toward and complete a goal within the team framework.
